Privacy policy

PlayAppTest Ltd runs PlayAppTest. This says what we collect, why we collect it, and who else gets to see it. If anything here is unclear, write to hello@playapptest.com and we will answer in plain words.
What we collect
Your account
Your email address, and your name if you give one. If you sign in with Google or Apple we receive your email, name and profile picture from them — nothing else. We ask those providers for the narrowest possible access: identity only, never your files, contacts or calendar.
Your password
Only if you set one, and only as a bcrypt hash. We cannot read it, and we cannot tell you what it is if you forget it.
Your apps
The name, package identifier, description and testing link of each app you register, so testers have something to join.
Payments
What you bought, when, how much, and in which currency. Card and M-Pesa details never reach us — Paystack collects those directly and we receive only a reference and a yes or no.
Testing records
Which testers were assigned to your run, whether each opened your app on each day, and any screenshots submitted as proof.
Visits to this site
Which pages are read, and roughly how many people read them. This is counted on our own server without cookies: your address and browser are salted and hashed together with the current date, which means we can tell how many people came today and cannot tell whether one of them came back on Tuesday. The raw address is never stored.
Google Analytics
We also use Google Analytics, which does set cookies and does send data to Google. It is a separate count from the one above and the two never agree. You can block it with any content blocker and nothing on this site will stop working.
If you are a tester, read this one
The service we sell is putting real people on a developer’s closed test. To do that, the Google or Apple address you give us is shown to the developer whose app you test — they have to add it to their tester list, because that is how Google and Apple work. There is no way to do this job anonymously.
The developer sees that address, your display name and your device model. They do not see your password, your payment details, or which other apps you have tested. If you would rather not hand over your everyday address, use a Google account made for the purpose.
Who else sees your data
We do not sell anything to anybody, and we do not share your data for advertising. These are the only third parties involved, and each sees only what its job requires:
- PaystackTakes the payment. Sees your name, email and card or M-Pesa details. We never see the last of those.
- Google (Analytics and sign-in)If you sign in with Google, Google knows you did. Analytics sees your visits.
- AppleIf you sign in with Apple, Apple knows you did. Apple's Hide My Email is supported.
- Zoho MailDelivers the emails we send you.
- Our hosting providerRuns the server the site and database sit on, in Germany.
How long we keep it
Account and testing records stay while your account exists, because the record of a completed test is the proof you may need to show Google. Payment records are kept for seven years, which is what tax law requires of us. Visit counts are kept for two years in daily totals — since the visitor hash changes every night, older records cannot be traced to a person even by us.
Ask us to delete your account and we will, along with your apps and your assignments. Payment records we have to keep; we will tell you exactly what is left.
What you can ask for
A copy of everything we hold on you; a correction; deletion; or that we stop processing. Kenya’s Data Protection Act 2019 gives you these rights, and if you are in the UK or EU, the UK GDPR and GDPR give you the same ones. Write to hello@playapptest.com and we will respond within 30 days. No charge, and no need to give a reason.
Changes
If we change this in a way that affects what we do with your data, we will email you before it takes effect rather than quietly changing the date at the top.
